Ronnie McWhorter was born in 1941 in rural Owsley Co KY, then moved to rural Jackson in 1947. He has always whittled – started carrying a pocked knife at age 6. Ronnie joined a wood carving club in Lexington Ky in 1978 and the Berea, KY Welcome Center carvers in 2001. He started carving Dough Bowls in 1989, and to date has made over 300. He taught many people the art in an informal setting, and has also taught 3 classes for EKU in the continuing education program.
Ronnie demonstrates bowl making 4 times a year at the Artisan Center. He received a Citation of Achievement from the House of Representatives in March, 2016. The Artisan Center has his bowls for sale.
