Sloyd Knife Carving with Warren Blankenship

Learn how to safely and confidently use a traditional carving knife!

Description: Participants will receive their own Sloyd knife and carving blanks to practice several small crafts while gaining an understanding of trees, wood crafts and sustainable practices. Create items such as butter spreaders, spatulas/stirrers, serving forks, coffee clips and pot scrapers while learning how to safely use and maintain carving knives.

Difficulty Level: Beginner

Youth Participants: 12+ with accompanying adult

Additional Information: Cut resistant gloves are not at all necessary for whittling, however, if they would make you feel more comfortable, feel free to bring along. Wear a shirt that allows unrestricted movement. Some people like to wear an apron to cover their lap and hold tools. Participants may bring any additional hand woodworking tools for inspection or advice on use and care-knives, hand saws, chisels, gouges, hatchets etc. are all welcome.

Notes: Participants will take home a small kit of supplies including a Sloyd knife and sheath, carving blanks, and a handout of resources
