Sgraffito: Carving Clay Bowls with Jonathan Dazo

Get your hands dirty carving unique clay bowls!

Description: Participants will carve up to 2, 4-inch diameter stoneware ceramic bowls, choosing the colors and designs. All tools and materials provided.

Difficulty Level: Beginner, steady hand-eye coordination required.

Youth Participants: 13+ with accompanying adult

Additional Information: Following the workshop, bowls will be finished by the instructor which includes kiln firing and applying a clear gloss glaze to render the bowls stable and food safe. Bowls will then be available for pickup at the Berea Gallery and Event Center or shipped for a flat fee of $20.00. Alternatively, participants can opt to donate their finished bowls to the Empty Bowls Project, a grass-roots initiative supporting food charities.

Notes: Please bring ideas or examples of designs to carve and a hand towel. Dress knowing you may get mildly dirty. Hand lotion may be desired as clay tends to dry skin. All tools and materials provided, and materials used are non-toxic and non-staining.
