Berea College presents the 50th annual Celebration of Traditional Music, celebrating a half-century of home-made music passed on from person to person in the Appalachian Region and the musicians who play it.
Our Golden Jubilee Celebration will honor some of our earliest performers and the many committee members who have worked to sustain this jewel of an event over the years. Performers will include:
The McLain Family Band – Bluegrass icons – Lifetime Achievement Award
The Ritchie Nieces – Appalachian family musical traditions
Rich Kirby – master of ballads, banjo and Appalachian song
Lewis And Donna Lamb – old-time music
Don Pedi – dulcimer, L. Allen Smith performer
The Lua Project – Mexilachian music
Julie Nelms, – fiddle and Appalachian song
Dance Band – Al and Alice White, with guests Liza DiSavino and A.J. Bodnar and caller Chris Bischoff
Phil Jameson – Dinner on the Grounds symposium speaker on Appalachian dance, and dance workshop
Events take place across the campus and will include a Saturday morning Kidzone at Woods Penn Commons. CTM is sponsored by the L. Allen Smith Memorial Fund and is planned and presented by the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center, the CTM Committee, the Music Department, and the students of the Folk-Roots Ensemble.
