Intermediate Bluegrass Banjo - Begins July 31st from 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM - Price: $144
Workshop Instructor: Pam Gadd

Participants will learn in this intermediate bluegrass banjo learnshop:
• A variety of instrumental tunes and songs from the old time, bluegrass, country, and gospel repertoire.
• Chord shapes and their applications in various songs.
• How to use a capo to play in different keys and accompany singing.
• How to play the banjo when jamming and playing with other musicians.
• Techniques to help make practice at home most effective.

Please bring a five-string banjo that is in good, playable condition as well as a capo, thumb pick and two metal finger picks. All Singing Bird Music School learnshops will focus on learning music “by ear” (the listen and repeat method). It is not necessary for students to know how to read music before they attend the school. Instructors may provide some chord charts, song lyrics, etc. but the reading of formal musical notation will not be taught. This class will teach how to read rhythms as well as banjo “tablature” so that students can have reference to songs and rolls after leaving school. Students who have registered for any intermediate / advanced level learnshop will have the option to switch learnshops if they choose in the afternoon learnshop period on Thursday, August 1st and all day on Friday, August 2nd. This is to accommodate musicians who play multiple instruments or want to explore different Singing Bird Music School learnshops. This option is only available for those musicians who register for intermediate / advanced level learnshops.

Prerequisites: Students should know how to tune the banjo, play the basic bluegrass banjo rolls, use several chords and change chords in a song, and have several instrumental tunes or songs they can play from memory.
