Make your writing dreams come true. Nancy Kelly Allen, author of 50 children’s books, walks you through the steps of creating a manuscript. Do you have ideas but don’t know how to develop the story into a manuscript? If so, this is the workshop for you. The discussion focuses on both writing as a craft and a business. Your creative spirit will flourish as you learn the fundamental principles of writing, including plot, structure, character, voice, dialogue, description, and point of view. On the business side, she’ll introduce the process of formatting a manuscript, writing cover/query letters, producing a synopsis, and targeting potential publishers. Instruction will be nurturing in this comprehensive introduction to children’s and young adult’s book writing. You’ll get the lowdown on today’s children’s and young adult’s book market, learn to critique a manuscript, and form a critique group for future writing feedback. Nancy will focus on picture books, chapter books, and children’s/young adult’s novels. The writing techniques presented are applicable for teaching writing in the classroom, as well.
