A small flock of chickens or ducks in your yard can provide fresh eggs, fertilizer, insect control, and hours of entertainment. We will cover the basics of breed selection, housing, feed and nutrition, health issues, and costs. Sources of chicks and ducklings and materials for raising them will be provided. City ordinances and codes regulating urban fowl will be discussed. Workshop participants will meet actual backyard chickens and ducks, and observe their housing and living conditions. Light refreshments will be provided.

• Take Home: A set of handouts with basic information including sources of additional information on raising backyard fowl.

• Notes: Portions of this workshop will be spent outside with the chickens and ducks. Please dress for walking on grass in potentially very warm and / or wet weather.
