Each student will make a paddle custom sized to their body dimensions from a dimensional 1” x 4” wood board. Students will receive hands on instruction in safe hand tool use as well as being able to follow along in the workshop workbook. Students will make the paddle by designing, laying out, chopping, sawing, planing, and sanding the paddle to shape. Each student will flame and wax their paddle to protect and bring out the beauty of the wood.

Course Objectives - Student will learn:
1. Safety with woodworking hand tools
2. Basics of paddle design
3. How to layout a paddle
4. Basic woodworking skills
5. Spliced paddle designing
6. Wood finishing with hot wax
7. Paddle variations

• Location: Berea Welcome Center (Back Platform) - 3 Artist Circle (Workshop is held outside. Active railroad in close vicinity to location.)

• Date/Time: July 19th from 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM

• Break: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM (1.5 hours)

• Total Hours: 6 hours

• Price: $114.00 (Includes all materials and a workbook.)

• Take Home: A beautifully hand made Kayak paddle built to the student’s body dimensions and a workbook.

• Notes: Participants must be able to stand for periods of time, have a degree of mobility and body strength.

Please wear closed toe shoes. Participants not meeting this requirement will not be allowed to join the workshop. If you purchase this workshop for someone else, please be sure they know the requirement.
