SUMMARY:Tools and Stools with Don Weber
DESCRIPTION:Spend the weekend learning traditional tool making and applying it on a simple project. This class is appropriate for all skill levels. \nOn day one\, you’ll be building a bow saw. Don will be demoing three styles\, from a simpler version for general carpentry\, to a scroll saw like version for intricate forms (you are heavily encouraged to build the carpentry one however). This is the focus of our weekend. \nOn day two\, you’ll use that tool to cut out your oak seat\, with legs being formed with a draw knife and tenon cutter. Hopefully\, by the end of that day\, your project will be complete (or you’ll have the tools and insight to finish it yourself!) \nDon Weber\, the Bodger of Paint Lick\, is a traditional woodworker\, blacksmith\, tool\, furniture and fly-rod maker. We’ve been lucky to have him leading workshops for the past several years through our traditional craft programming and beyond. Do not miss this opportunity!

SUMMARY:FreeSkool: Leave No Trace - Economical Outdoor Ethics
DESCRIPTION:Break into the great outdoors without breaking the bank. Learn how to experience nature on the cheap in both front country and back country. \nIn this class for ages 13 and up\, Shawn Ford will be teaching participants how to enjoy the outdoors while leaving minimal impact on both the land and wallets. Hiking and camping don’t have to require expensive gear as long as you know some basics and can keep a positive attitude and an open mind. \nParticipants are asked to dress for the outdoors (including light rain) and be prepared for up to 1 mile of moderate hiking (it’s tick season so closed-toe shoes\, pants\, and bug spray). We also suggest bringing a sharp knife (pocket or sheath)\, water\, snacks\, and a way to take notes. We will plan to meet at the Pavilion and head out into the forest (weather-permitting). If the weather isn’t cooperative\, we will stay at the shelter. \nClass is FREE\, but limited to 15 participants so please register. If you have registered and can no longer attend\, PLEASE CANCEL your registration so that someone else may take your place. NO PETS. If you have camping gear and want to stay the night after class\, please bring $10 per person for the overnight camping fee. \nAbout Shawn:\nAs well as being a high school science teacher\, Shawn has taught outdoor ethics principles and techniques for over 15 years to various groups of all ages. He feels strongly that a person can leave no trace in the woods without going into debt purchasing expensive gear.

SUMMARY:FreeSkool: Get Your Garlic On!
DESCRIPTION:The garlic patch is ready to harvest. Now what? \nIf you’re new to growing garlic or just garlic-curious\, this class will walk you through harvesting\, cleaning\, trimming\, curing set-up\, and processing hardneck cloves into garlic powder. Each participant will get to leave with their own jar of HomeGrown Garlic Powder. You’ll never want store-bought again! \nThis class is probably best suited for ages 12 and up\, but guardians are welcome to tag-team between the garden and the playground as long as there is someone watching the kids at all times. Harvesting will take place out in the sun so we recommend hats\, water\, sunscreen\, and gloves. \nOnce the garlic is harvested\, we’ll move into the shade of the Pavilion to work on trimming and curing (kitchen or garden shears are helpful to bring as we may not have enough for everyone). Once we get a decent amount of garlic processed\, we’ll show you how we go from clove to powder for the final step. \nIMPORTANT: This class is extremely weather and plant dependent. There’s a possibility that the garlic won’t be ready or the ground may be too wet (or too dry) to harvest so please be sure Eventbrite emails aren’t landing in your spam folder in case we need to cancel or reschedule. We’ll also update the facebook event on the HomeGrown HideAways page. \nClass is FREE\, but limited to 20 participants so please register (no need to register children who are just here for the playground). If you have registered and can no longer attend\, PLEASE CANCEL your registration at least 48 hours before class so that someone else may take your place. NO PETS. \nThis class is being co-led by Nathan & Jessa Turner\, the Co-Conspirators behind HomeGrown HideAways. After 10 years of trial and error\, failure and success\, we think we’ve finally figured out this one thing and hope to save new folks some of the heartache and headache of learning from scratch. \n(This class may or may not take the full 4 hours\, but we’d rather have too much time than not enough).
