Come spend time with local artists as you learn hand tool woodworking or blacksmithing. Signups are through the ticket links on our facebook events\, or through our calendar at www.bereamakerspace.org/calendar\n\n\nOn April 5th\, Finishing Sloyd with Warren (Advanced Workshop)\n\n\nWarren leads this Sloyd intermediate course – spend the finishing your own wooden utensil. Learn about sanding and burnishing\, oil finishes\, painting with acrylic and food safe milk paints. This is an intermediate class\, and requires you to bring your own wood carving tools. The hook and straight carving knives provided in Starting Sloyd should be everything you need.\n\n\nMinimum age: 16 (adult must be present for minors). Feel free to reach out to Warren to see if your kid will be a good fit.

DESCRIPTION:Carved and decorated treen\, or handmade domestic objects made of wood\, have been a part of daily life for thousands of years. Whether intended for use by the maker themself or as a gift for a loved one (or\, not without historical precedent\, a potential loved one – 💕romantic! 💕)\, this form has endured as a way to express personal sentiment. In this class\, we’ll attempt to reconcile symbolic language with the everyday object. \n\n\n  \n\n\nThough the covered concepts are adaptable to other forms\, participant’s focus will be on carving one of several types of combs. Templates from historical examples will be provided\, but personal design and flourish is\, of course\, encouraged. \n\n\n  \n\n\nWe’ll explore a number of decorative elements: pierced shapes\, punched motifs\, carved patterns and hand lettering. Our goal will be to establish a vocabulary of our own by selecting\, reinterpreting\, and arranging elements that can work together. \n  \n\nAll material costs and daily lunches are included in the course fee at Pine Croft.

DESCRIPTION:The Berea College planetarium hosts shows twice a week in our large planetarium. The shows are open to the public and held every Friday at 7PM and Sunday at 4PM. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors. You can check out https://planetarium.berea.edu to view the available shows and descriptions. \nLocated in the Margaret A. Cargill (MAC) Natural Sciences and Health Building (34) on the 4th floor. Visitors can enter using the two doors located at the front of the building. Parking and location information is provided by the interactive campus maps.
