SUMMARY:FreeSkool: DIY Energy Efficiency Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Skyrocketing electric bills? This conversation is for YOU! \nWhether you’re a homeowner\, farm\, nonprofit\, or small business\, skyrocketing energy costs are affecting everyone these days. Chris Woolery\, Energy Projects Coordinator and Josh Bills\, Senior Energy Analyst\, both at Mountain Association\, will lead a community conversation about different ways to lower your utility bills. Learn how to do your own DIY efficiency projects\, whether solar might work for you\, what to look for when hiring a contractor\, and where utility programs and other incentives are available to help. \nThere will be a discussion with time for Q&A. After class\, if the weather is cooperative\, attendees can also take an outside tour of the solar systems and EV charging station located on the farm (please dress for the outdoors\, including mudboots\, if you’d like to participate). \nClass is FREE\, but limited to 20 participants so please register. Recommended for 13 and older.\nIf you have registered and can no longer attend\, PLEASE CANCEL your registration so that someone else may take your place.\nPlease note that this event takes place up a flight of stairs. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. \nAbout Chris:\nChris Woolery joined Mountain Association’s Energy Team in 2011 after two decades as an ENERGY STAR® builder and energy services contractor. Over his career\, Chris has helped deliver residential energy efficiency upgrades to more than 800 households. Chris manages the How$martKY™ program\, which partners with rural electric cooperatives to install residential energy improvements paid directly from their energy savings. His work also focuses on equitable energy policy and clean energy workforce development. \nAbout Josh:\nJosh Bills\, a Certified Energy Manager\, has worked with the Mountain Association since 2008 to develop and coordinate energy assessments and pursue emerging energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities for commercial enterprises across Central Appalachia. He advocates for commercial businesses and organizations to always first lower their electricity demand through smarter usage and low-investment energy efficiency measures; then works diligently with people to help them combine available grant funds\, rebates and financing to cover larger investments in efficiency and solar systems designed to optimize energy production.

SUMMARY:Al Scorch | Casey Campbell
DESCRIPTION:Al Scorch is a Chicago singer-songwriter\, banjo player\, and storyteller whose music collides old-time string band\, punk\, folk\, and soulful balladry into something unmistakably his own — part revival tent preacher\, part DIY road warrior. With a booming voice and blistering clawhammer banjo technique\, he brings heartfelt\, poetically political songs to stages across the country\, and has released records on Chicago’s beloved roots label Bloodshot Records. NPR’s All Songs Considered once called him “a composite sketch of all my favorite Midwestern drinking buddies” — which is about as perfect a description as you’re going to get..\nCasey Campbell — known as “The Deacon” — is a drummer\, vocalist\, and co-founding member of the Cincinnati-based Americana outfit Buffalo Wabs & The Price Hill Hustle\, a group celebrated for blending gospel\, country blues\, folk\, and traditional American music into something entirely their own. An Alabama native with a deep gospel-vocal sensibility\, Campbell has helped build the Hustle into a beloved regional act\, sharing stages with Tyler Childers\, Steep Canyon Rangers\, and Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band\, and even landing recurring roles in Tyler Childers’ music videos. Tonight he brings that same soulful storytelling to the stage solo — music that\, in his own words\, “accompanies the story” and connects us all.\n$10 Tickets.7pm Doors. 7:30 Music

SUMMARY:Berea College Planetarium Shows: Life a Cosmic Story
DESCRIPTION:For millions of years\, our view of the heavens has been limited by our eyes\, allowing us to only see a narrow band of electromagnetic radiation we call visible light. For the first time ever\, in the greatest breakthrough since the invention of the telescope\, we now have the technology to capture the Universe over an amazing width of the spectrum and beyond. We can even interlink telescopes around the world to capture data on a global scale. Made in association with ESO and the Houston Museum of Natural Science\, Unseen Universe provides a stunning visual treat as we explore the latest splendors of the heavens with a stirring score performed by the Utah Film Orchestra. It is an uplifting look at the new era of astronomy and what has yet to come. Unseen Universe makes what was once thought to be unseeable\, seeable.\n\nLocated in the Margaret A. Cargill (MAC) Natural Sciences and Health Building (34) on the 4th floor. Visitors can enter using the two doors located at the front of the building. Parking and location information is provided by the interactive campus maps.

SUMMARY:Doris After Dark
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a new monthly late-night programming series at the Doris Ulmann Galleries that brings creativity and community together in fun new ways! The February event lineup starts at 5:00pm with a gallery talk hosted by Director and Curator\, Dr. Kelsey Frady Malone\, highlighting Our Land\, a painting by African-American artist Charles W. White that is on loan to the Doris Ulmann Galleries for the 2025-2026 academic year. \nThe talk will be followed by a portrait painting workshop at 7:00 inspired by White’s painting. Workshop participants will explore how visual elements and stylistic choices can communicate a subject’s values and character (such as strength\, resilience\, power\, tenderness\, and empathy) and then practice those skills by creating their own self-portrait with intention and agency – showcasing the facets of themselves that they value the most. Pizza will be served between the gallery talk and the workshop\, so you can plan to hang at the Galleries all night! \nNo art expertise is required; all workshop supplies are provided. Space is limited in the workshop\, so advanced registration is required. Email malonek2@berea.edu to reserve your spot. These events are free and open to the public and guests of all ages. Doris After Dark is made possible in part by grant funding provided by The Art Bridges Foundation.
