SUMMARY:Willow Bark Basketry with Jennifer Zurick
DESCRIPTION:This class will introduce weavers to native black willow bark\, a very strong\, flexible and beautiful fiber uncommonly used for basketry. Class participants will learn fiber preparation by removing the outer bark layer from portions of precut strips prior to constructing a small basket and bark harvesting will be discussed. Students are encouraged to create freely\, choosing from variety of weaving techniques for the basket body and twining techniques for border design options. Cordage making for optional handle application will also be taught. All skill levels are welcome. \nAll material costs and daily lunches are included in the course fee at Pine Croft.

This special gathering features Jackie Tate Stewart’s newest work\, “With Whom I Walk\,” offered as a limited edition of only 250 signed and numbered prints. For each print sold\, $50 will be donated to Redeeming Hope\, a nonprofit dedicated to combatting human trafficking of minors in Kentucky. Redeeming Hope is currently constructing a 6\,000+ square-foot therapeutic foster home for teen girls from all 120 counties of Kentucky who have been trafficked or sexually exploited. The home will be right here in Berea.\nEnjoy inspiring presentations from guest speakers Jackie Tate Stewart and Lisa Foster\, Founder and President of Redeeming Hope\, as they share their stories. The event also will showcase Jackie’s full catalog of journals\, prints in a variety of sizes\, and seasonal items like “Letters to Santa” journals for kids and the young at heart. DESCRIPTION:Want to make new friends? Worried about hiking alone until you gain your confidence? Want to learn about the local wildlife?\nThen join a group hike at the Pinnacles in Berea! \nEvery Saturday at 1:00 pm\, FOC staff and Berea College students will be ready to hike with you! The group that attends will decide on the destination together. We can also split groups (if there is ample staffing) if there are different wants/needs of hike difficulty.\nPlease bring water and any medications you might need (i.e. inhaler).
