SUMMARY:Willow Bark Basketry with Jennifer Zurick
DESCRIPTION:This class will introduce weavers to native black willow bark\, a very strong\, flexible and beautiful fiber uncommonly used for basketry. Class participants will learn fiber preparation by removing the outer bark layer from portions of precut strips prior to constructing a small basket and bark harvesting will be discussed. Students are encouraged to create freely\, choosing from variety of weaving techniques for the basket body and twining techniques for border design options. Cordage making for optional handle application will also be taught. All skill levels are welcome. \nAll material costs and daily lunches are included in the course fee at Pine Croft.

DESCRIPTION:Join artists Lesa Aker and Sharon Matisoff at the Kentucky Artisan Center on Friday\, November 7th\, 2025 from 3:30-5:30pm as they unveil and celebrate their collection of oil and pastel works united by their overarching subject matters: the fauna that inspires them. From horses to hounds to husbands\, each work displays the artists’ understanding of their craft and the world around them. See Manes\, Muzzles & Other Muses on display in the Kentucky Artisan Center front lobby from November 7th to January 16th. This exhibit is free and open to the public during the Kentucky Artisan Center’s open hours (9am-6pm daily).

DESCRIPTION:Chasing the Ghost Particle discusses how the IceCube Neutrino Observatory in Antarctica studies neutrinos\, which are tiny “ghost” particles that travel through space and can provide clues about extreme cosmic events\, taking viewers on a journey from the South Pole to the far reaches of the universe.\n\n\nFriday 7:00pm\nSunday 4:00pm\n$5 Adults\n$3 Children/ Seniors\nCash only\n\nThe Berea College planetarium hosts shows twice a week in our large planetarium. The shows are open to the public and held every Friday at 7PM and Sunday at 4PM. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors. You can check out https://planetarium.berea.edu to view the available shows and descriptions. \nLocated in the Margaret A. Cargill (MAC) Natural Sciences and Health Building (34) on the 4th floor. Visitors can enter using the two doors located at the front of the building. Parking and location information is provided by the interactive campus maps.
