DESCRIPTION:Come join us each Saturday from 9-10am at the Forestry Outreach Center for Forest Meditations!\nThis is an opportunity to connect with ourselves\, each other\, and the world. All are welcome! We will meet in the “Nature’s Classroom” gazebo. Bring your mats or cushions if you like. Chairs will be provided.\nWe will start with a short introduction to the sit\, meditate for about 20 minutes\, and then invite you to reflect on your experience in any way you wish. It could be through writing\, drawing or quiet contemplation. We would then welcome anyone who would like to share from their experience. We would love to have you linger afterwards for coffee and conversation.\nThis event is hosted by Berea College Forestry Outreach Center\, Wendy Zagray Warren\, Jane Mecham and Pat Gailey.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll explore the beautiful and practical Japanese art of Sashiko and Boro stitching. In this two-hour session\, you’ll learn various hand-stitching techniques to create decorative repairs and add unique accents to your textiles.\nWhether you’re looking to mend a beloved garment or simply want to try a new craft\, this workshop is perfect for all skill levels.You will learn to create samples of different sashiko stitches and how to use these stitches for decorative repairs on torn garments or fabric.\nYou’re encouraged to bring your own items from home that may need repair (e.g.\, jeans with small tears\, old shirts\, etc.) and a pair of small embroidery scissors (if you have them).\nWe will provide sample pieces\, needles\, and thread.\n\nThere will be two chances to attend this workshop! Choose the session that works for you:\nSaturday\, September 13th from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM\nWednesday\, September 17th from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM\nWe can’t wait to stitch with you!\n“The term Boro is derived from the Japanese term “boroboro”\, meaning something tattered or repaired. Boro typically refers to cotton\, linen\, and hemp materials\, mostly hand-woven by peasant farmers\, that have been stitched or re-woven together to create an often many-layered fabric used for warm\, practical clothing.\nStitching and weaving are the two main techniques used in the creation of Boro textiles. When mending a destroyed garment or creating whole cloth from small\, scrappy pieces\, a simple running stitch called sashiko\, translated to “little stabs”\, is used. Today\, stitchers across the world utilize sashiko as a mindful and intentional practice within their creative efforts.”

DESCRIPTION:Want to make new friends? Worried about hiking alone until you gain your confidence? Want to learn about the local wildlife?\nThen join a group hike at the Pinnacles in Berea! \nEvery Saturday at 1:00 pm\, FOC staff and Berea College students will be ready to hike with you! The group that attends will decide on the destination together. We can also split groups (if there is ample staffing) if there are different wants/needs of hike difficulty.\nPlease bring water and any medications you might need (i.e. inhaler). With over 15 years of experience in homeless services\, housing advocacy\, and community building\, particularly in rural Eastern Kentucky\, Adrienne will inspire and encourage us all to keep working toward safe housing for everyone. \nBalancing the night with laughter\, our Master of Ceremonies will be Jordan Berry\, a rising stand-up comedian from Lexington\, Kentucky. Known for his quick wit and authentic storytelling\, Jordan has performed across the region\, leaving audiences smiling and laughing. \nJoin us for our annual fundraising dinner in support of the upcoming Season 8 of serving the homeless community in Madison County and Berea\, Kentucky.
