Want to learn about the local wildlife?\nThen join at group hike at the Pinnacles in Berea!\n***\nEvery Saturday at 10:00am this summer\, FOC staff and Berea College students will be ready to hike with you! The group that attends will decide on the destination together. We can also split groups (if there is ample staffing) if there are different wants/needs of hike difficulty.\nPlease bring water and any medications you might need (i.e. inhaler). Dress for the weather.\n*The hike will be cancelled in the case of inclement weather including thunderstorms or high winds*\nGroup hikes are offered year round. DESCRIPTION:Get ready to swap seeds\, plants\, materials and stories by participating in the Cumberland Seed Commons Seed and Plant Swap! Seed and Plant swaps are a fun way to meet other farmers and gardeners\, learn tips and tricks about your favorite seeds or plants\, and find out what crops and natives do well in your area. Whether you’re a seasoned grower or a fresh sprout just starting out\, this free event is the perfect opportunity to cultivate connections\, preserve heirloom genetics\, and take home some unique treasures for your garden. Bring any seeds\, nuts\, plants or cuttings left from last season’s inventory and garden\, cuttings from your overgrown plants\, or extra plants that need a good home\, and take home some new seeds and plants for your 2025 garden!  \nThis event is free to participants and vendors! You can come anytime between 2 pm-5pm with vendors advised to set up by 1:30pm. This event will be held on the Atrus Ballew Farm\, 265 Charlie Norris Rd.\, Richmond\, KY. The seeds and plants can be sold\, given away for free and used as barter or swap. If you have seeds and plants to offer at the Swap\, please bring your own table\, chairs and tent. If you can’t make it to this event but have seeds or plants you’d like to see go to a good home\, send them to us by mail or arrange to drop seeds and plants by the farm.

This workshop is designed to educate\, inspire and create long lasting impressions on individuals and communities.\n\n\nThe participant leaves with knowledge about the Negro Spiritual examples of work songs; inspirational songs and contemplative songs: creative work to share with family and community.\n\n\nSistah LaLa is a Grammy Award-winning\, classically trained Contralto known for her dynamic fusion of Roots n Soul\, Jazz\, Blues\, and Hip-Hop. With over 35 years of experience performing in 40 countries and prestigious Opera Houses\, she has built a remarkable career as Classical Vocalist and now continues her arc as a Singer-Songwriter. In addition to her performances\, Sistah Lala is dedicated to honoring her heritage by arranging Traditional Spirituals and conducting workshops that uplift and highlight underrepresented stories in music. Sistah LaLa released her solo project\, “Journey To Freedom” which highlights original compositions and arrangements of American Negro Spirituals. “Journey to Freedom” can be found at SistahLaLa.Bandcamp.com\n\n\n*This workshop is part of our Emerging Musician’s Incubator\, supported by a Music in Action grant from Live Music Society and presented in partnership with First Friday Berea.
