At the age of 13 Greg became fond of the bluegrass music that Flatt & Scruggs were playing on early morning radio and on albums being played on a home stereo record player. Having found a family heirloom five string banjo, he painstakingly tried to learn the basics by trial and error. By the time he was 18 he was playing in talent and variety shows. Living in Minnesota in the 60’s and 70’s wasn’t giving him the exposure to bluegrass that he needed so in 1979 he moved to Kentucky to pursue the music form at a higher level. In the years since, he has had the opportunity to meet some of the well known banjo players in bluegrass. Playing with several different groups over the years has given him valuable experience at the professional level and also enabled him to help others learn this art form.
